Loan Closet

What is the Loan Closet?

Sometimes we find that we need help enjoying our daily lives.  Wheelchairs, portable commodes, bathtub benches, scooters, lifts, and other equipment can help eliminate some of the barriers people with MS face.

For these times, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society maintains a loan closet of durable medical equipment.  This equipment is available for short and long-term loans to individuals who meet the program's conditions.

Do I qualify for help?

To receive assistance from the loan closet program, the person who will be using the equipment must be a person with MS, have a doctor's prescription for the equipment, and:

  • Must not have medical insurance, or
  • Medical insurance does not cover the cost of equipment and person must not have personal funds to pay for the equipment.
  • Must be unable to pay the insurance copayment.
  • Must be unable to pay the deductible for such equipment.

How do I get help?

Simply contact the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Central Virginia Chapter:

2104 W. Laburnum Ave., Suite 102
Richmond, VA 23227

Phone:
1-FIGHT MS (Press #1)
Fax:

Equipment loans are based on availibility.  Please try to make your request at least two weeks in advance, when possible.  Delivery of equipment is available in the Central Virginia Chapter area.

Newly Diagnosed

Moving Forward

The Central Virginia Chapter is pleased to offer this free educational program for people with multiple sclerosis who have been diagnosed in the last two years.  Each area program is scheduled in a two-hour evening session and is designed for people with MS and their families to understand their diagnosis and to adjust more effectively to the disease.

Knowledge is Power

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society is pleased to introduce the Knowledge is Power program - a free, at home educational series for people who are newly diagnosed and their family members.  It will provide you with current and accurate information about multiple sclerosis.  It is written by highly regarded professionals knowledgeable about MS and the effect it can have on your life and the lives of the people who care about you.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society's mission is to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.  The Knowledge is Power series is designed to give you information about how to deal with one of the greatest challenges presented by MS - the unpredictability and uncertainty of what is in you future.

Receive a new topic each week in the convenience of your home:

  • What is multiple sclerosis?
  • Dealing with your diagnosis
  • Working with your doctor
  • Treatments in MS
  • Disclosing your diagnosis
  • Disease-modifying treatments for MS.
